It all begins with a couple of Senegalese students from Montreal….

Year after year, the Mourid Community built up to reach about 150 active members in Edmonton with over 50 events are being hosted byt Touba Yes yearly.

Foundation Phase (Early 2010s)

  • A small group of Senegalese immigrants in Edmonton wanted to preserve their cultural and spiritual identity.

  • They began informal gatherings for religious study, cultural events, and youth mentorship.

  1. Organizational Phase

    • As the community grew, they formalized into a registered non-profit society.

    • The focus expanded to youth engagement, helping second-generation immigrants stay connected to their roots while thriving in Canadian society.

  2. Growth and Outreach

    • Activities included language classes (Wolof, Arabic), Islamic education, cultural celebrations, and social supports.

    • Partnerships with local multicultural NGO organizations strengthened their presence.

  3. Current Role

    • Over time, TOUBA Edmonton Youth Society became more than an organization—it became a home away from home. Today, TOUBA Edmonton Youth Society likely serves as a hub for community development, youth leadership, and cultural preservation, organizing events like Magal celebrations, charity drives, and educational workshops.
